A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius

This was my favorite book of 2000, and now it is in paperback, with an added appendix! It's moving and wacky and well-written and original.
I am constantly fascinated and inspired by what he has done and continues to do. Check out www.mcsweeneys.net for an introduction to his literary journal.

I had very high expectations for this book (especially with my cousin's rating of a 10) and it didn't live up to it. I really enjoyed the first, say 150 pages. Eggers is very funny and his relationship with his brother made me laugh out loud at times. Unfortunately, he goes on for another 300 pages without much of a point or a plot. I found him somewhat pretentious and his habbit of changing conversations just so he could talk about certain things was aggravating (especially since he let the reader know what he was doing).
Overall, if he had edited this down to 200 pages I would've loved it. But Eggers philosophical ramblings were not enough to hold me the length of the book.
