This book could almost have been written by Anne Tyler. Sweet pathetic characters who have problems that you just want to fix. This is the story of an old woman who is ready to die - when we first meet her she has jumped out of her bedroom window, convinced she could fly. Her granddaughter, Jody, who could be described as a troublemaker, moves in with her to help. Their neighbors, Andre and Vonny are having their own marital issues and much anxiety around their son. Throw in a benevolent giant, and you've got a Hoffman story. Not as much magic incorporated in this one as some of her other books, but still a good read.
