The first of a trilogy set in the age of enlightenment, the 17th century. It is a story that is actually comprised of 6 books woven together like most of Stephenson's tales. I will be honest it takes a few hundred pages to get into becuase he is capturing practically the entire world during that time. It is the story of a philisophical/scientific battle between Newton and Leibnitz as well as a more common couple Jack Shaftoe and Eliza who are an unlikely pair at best and impossible together at worst. I enjoyed it by the end and look forward to the next two.
