I have decided to keep buying CD's as long as I can, and then converting it to listen to conveniently through my speakers, as opposed to streaming. We used to have streaming and it was free, called it the radio.
I have determined .flac is the way. Cross platform and arguably the best I am going to do.
Other software I have found to be high quality for these purposes.

Apple Music player wants me to use their library and does not play flac.
I am not against paying for software, as I pay for a mixer and others, but these are the best solutions to future proof my music.
